14 bag first class as Caleb varsity holds 7th convocation

Caleb varsity best graduating student, Elizabeth, applauds bank’s job offer

Fourteen students will graduate with first class honours at the seventh convocation of the Caleb University, Imota in Lagos State on Friday.

Mr Elvis Otobo, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, said in a statement on Monday that the students are among 409, who are graduating with various divisions of degrees.

The convocation will take place at the Multipurpose Hall of the University’s Permanent Site, Imota on Oct. 13.

The week-long activities lined up for the convocation, which began on Sunday, Oct. 8 with valedictory service and prayers, include Caleb and Graduates’ Forum, a seminar on Human Resource Concerns and novelty football match among others.

The theme of the seminar is “Contend for Space, Dominate the Space”.

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State will be the special guest of honour while the Group Chief Executive of the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Mr Ladi Balogun, will deliver the Convocation Lecture.

The ceremony will witness conferment of awards and recognition of distinguished Nigerians with track-record of excellence, as well as higher and first degrees on successful students.

There will also be a pre-convocation dinner on Thursday while the ceremony will be rounded off on Friday with the conferment of honours and award of degrees.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and other eminent Nigerians, would also be conferred with honorary degree awards.

A breakdown of the class of degrees to be conferred on the graduating students are 14 with first class, 142 with second class upper division, 162 with second class lower division and 47 with third class.

In the postgraduate level, 12 students would bag Master of Business Administration (MBA) while 32 would receive Master of Science M.Sc.

Our correspondent reports that the Caleb University is a faith-based institution that was licensed by the National University Commission (NUC) on May 17, 2007, to run as a private University in Lagos State.

The institution began academic activities in January 2008 at its Lagos City Campus but relocated to its permanent site at Imota near Ikorodu in November of 2009.
