The Cathedral Administrator, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Catholic Cathedral Jalingo, Very Rev. Fr. Simon Akuraga has called on Nigerian leaders to emulate the sacrifice Jesus made to save mankind for the good of the country.

Akuraga made the call on Friday while addressing a multitude of worshippers who converged at the cathedral to mark the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ popularly called “Good Friday.”
He admonished Nigerians of all class and status to learn to sacrifice and suffer for others for a better society.
“The symbolic washing of the feets of the disciples by Jesus Christ on Holy Thursday should go to show our leaders that they are called to serve not to be served.
“In Nigeria today, a few people have accumulated wealth for themselves and some even go to the extent of pilling up hard currencies in private homes while millions of people are suffering.
“As Jesus broke the bread and shared with his disciples, our leaders should also ensure that the resources of Nigeria are judiciously shared among Nigerians other than accumulating for themselves and families,” he said.
According to him, the daily discovery of huge sums of money by anti graft agencies across the country was an indication that Nigerians and Nigerian leaders need to repent and toy the path of sincerity and sacrifice for the nation to move forward.
He lamented that the many challenges facing the country from the militancy in the south to the herdsmen killings in the middle belt and Boko Haram insurgency in the north east was because of poor leadership and lack of sacrifice on the part of Nigerian leaders.
The cleric tasked the congregation to use the season of Easter to pray for Nigeria’s numerous challenges and the world in general for peace to reign.
