Man docked for allegedly stealing debit card, withdrawing N123,000

A 27-year-old man, Tommy Igweike, was on Thursday arraigned in Asaba for allegedly stealing a bank debit card belonging to one Mrs Miriam Uyabame and using it to withdraw N123,000 from her account.

The Prosecutor, Mr Ifeanyi Uwakina, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 24 on Ibuza road in Asaba.

Uwakina said that the offence was punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap C21, Vol 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Okonkwo Akanume, granted him bail in the sum of N120, 000 and a surety in like sum.

Akanume said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be a civil servant, with evidence of employment.

Besides, she said that the surety must provide two passport photographs and also own a landed property.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 14, for hearing.
