NBS says price of 5kg cooking gas increased in May

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), said the average price for refilling of a five kilogram cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) increased to N2,072.24 in May from N2,058.19 in April 2018.

The NBS disclosed this in its “Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch’’ released on Tuesday.

The report indicated that the price paid by consumers for a five kilogram cooking gas increased by +0.68per cent month-on-month and decreased by -15.30per cent year-on-year.

It named the states with the highest average price for refilling of a five kilogram cylinder for cooking gas to include Bauchi (N2,500.00), Gombe (N2,500.00), and Borno (N2,428.57).

It said states with the lowest average price for the refilling of a five kilogram cylinder for cooking gas were Kaduna (N1,687.50), Ebonyi (N1,690.00) and Ekiti (N1,795.00).

“Similarly, average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for cooking gas increased by 0.70per cent month-on-month and decreased by -13.30per cent year-on-year to N4,298.72 in May from to N4,268.95 in April.

“States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Cooking Gas are Benue (N5,150.00), Kaduna (N4,935.00) and Cross River (N4,687.50).

“States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Oyo (N3,940.38), Ogun (N3,866.67) and Lagos (N3,683.33),’’ the report stated.

The bureau’s “Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) Price Watch ’’ revealed that the average price paid by consumers for diesel increased to N205.67 in May from N204.35 paid in April.

It said the price increased by 0.65 per cent month-on-month and 4.91 per cent year-on-year.

It said that states with the highest average price of diesel were Taraba (N253.33), Gombe (N227.50), and Kebbi (N224.50).

It further said that the states with the lowest average price of diesel were Nasarawa (N162.27), Abuja (N183.00) and Adamawa (N186.67).
