Okada ban: Obosi community records improved security

Mr Ike Madubuosah, President-General, Obosi town in Idemili North Council Area, Anambra says that security has tremendously in the town following the ban on commercial motorcycles operation.

Madubuosah, who said this in an interview with our reporter in Obosi on Tuesday, commended Gov. Willie Obiano for the policy on the ban.

The president-general, who described Obosi as one of the high crime flashpoints in the state, said the crimes were perpetrated by hoodlums who disguised as commercial motorcyclists.

He said residents of the area now enjoyed relative peace and security since July 1, when the restriction took effect.

“Most of the criminals who made security of life and property difficult had left the town because of the increased effectiveness of vigilance group.

“The situation after the ban of Okada in Obosi is calm, we are happy because what was meant to be a means of free movement became a tool for thieves and cultists to terrorise our people.

“They could easily rob, shot their victims and rivals and zoom off on a bike but all that has reduced drastically now.

“With the ban, we are having control over their activities, everything is calm now, our vigilance group are more effective,” he said.

Madubuosah, however, noted that commuting around the town was no longer as easy as before and called on Obiano to make good his promise of replacing the outlawed motorcycles with shuttle buses.

He urged genuine transport operators to key into the process of benefitting from 1,000 shuttle buses to be rolled out by the governor.
