30 flights disrupted at Indonesian airport after plane skids off runway
No fewer than 30 flights were disrupted after an aircraft operated by national carrier Garuda Indonesia skidded off the runway in the Javanese city of Yogyakarta, an official said Thursday.
The Boeing 737-800 with 130 people on board slid sideways off the runway late Wednesday, prompting the temporary closure of Adisutjipto International Airport.
No one was hurt in the incident.
“About 30 flights were affected, with some cancelled and some others diverted to (nearby) Solo,” said Agus Purnama, the general manager of the airport operator, PT Angkasa Pura I.
More than 100 Air Force personnel from the adjacent airbase helped with efforts to remove the aircraft, he said.
