Alleged battery theft suspect gets bail
A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state, on Tuesday granted bail to 43-year-old mechanic, Tope Ogunlayo, charged with stealing of a motor battery valued at N16, 000.
The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 and a surety in like sum.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Uko, had told the court that the accused committed the offence at MRS Junction at Ajara Area of Badagry.
Uko said the battery belonged to one Miss Sarah Ajala.
According to him, the complainant took her car for repairs at the accused place and it was just suppose to last for few hours but it was delayed beyond that.
“The accused starting acting awkwardly and this made the complainant suspicious.
“On getting to her car, she noticed that her battery was missing and investigation revealed that the accused sold it,’’ he said.
Uko said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria.
The accused pleaded not guilty, and his counsel, Mr Wale Akano, applied for bail on his behalf, assuring that his client would not jump bail.
Etti adjourned the case till Sept. 22 for further hearing.
