Palpable tension has enveloped indigenes and residents of a community in Osogbo the Osun state over a letter that was circulated by a fraternity notifying them of an attack.
The fraternity, in the letter, proposed that a set of armed robbers would burst houses any moment.
The group identified itself as ‘Fiejesofo (blood wasters) fraternity.
A copy of the letter, which was obtained by our correspondent, was written in Yoruba language.
The letter specifically told residents of Kelebe, a community in Osogbo, that the attacks are already scheduled.
It was learnt that some of the residents found the letter in front of their apartments.
When our correspondent visited the area, the few residents around refused to grant interview.
Some of them were panicking and shouting that they needed the presence of policemen.
A landlord, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, lamented that most of them had nowhere to run to.
The landlord told our correspondent that since the letter surfaced, most of them find it difficult to sleep. The spokesperson of Kelebe Landlords Association, Mr Hakeem Bolarinwa, confirmed the warning.
He said, “The warning is real. We want police and other security agencies in the state to be proactive by setting up necessary security measures that will ensure the safety of residents of the area.”
When contacted on the telephone, Osun Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Folasade Odoro, said policemen would be deployed to the area.
She, however, urged the residents of Kelebe and the entire people of Osun State not to panic over the purported letter.
“Police detective will investigate the supposed armed robbers’ notification letter,” she added.
