Don't tarnish image of Auchi Polytechnic, council warns staff

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Auchi Polytechnic Chapter, has applauded its management for the recall of three of its sacked members for different alleged offences.

Its chairman, Mr Justin Momodu, confirmed the development to our reporter on Tuesday in Benin.

He also said that the fourth member of staff, who was the institution’s former acting Registrar, affected by the sack, and had also been recalled.

Momodu gave the names of the recalled staff as: Messers Friday Idugie, former ASUP chairman; Thomas Osazuwa, former Dean, School of Business, Odion Dirisu, senior lecturer and T. Okosun, former acting Registrar of the school.

He told our reporter that the previous administrations of Dr Friday Eboreime and Dr Pilipa Idogo, as Rectors, sacked the four staff for different alleged offences, but that they all won their cases in court.

He said as hard as the unions tried, Dr Idogo, as Rector, under whose tenure they won their cases, however, refused to obey courts’ order for their recall.

The ASUP chairman described the recall of his sacked members by management as “victory for ASUP and truth over injustice and wickedness.

“We want to appreciate the role of the current acting Rector, Dr Sanusi Jimah, who took proactive steps to present their cases before the council even before the ASUP had time to present the cases before management.

“The acting Rector has once again, demonstrated that he is the man of the people who has a good heart and is determined to reposition the institution.

“We are not only happy that the staff members were recalled, but also happy that they were recalled with their full benefits,” he said.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Mustapha Oshiobugie, also confirmed the recall of the sacked staff.

He said “It is true that council has approved the recall of the affected staff.

“Of course, they won their cases in court and the council in its magnanimity, after the acting Rector, Dr Sanusi Jimah, presented their cases before it, implemented the court’s order,’’ he said.
