AWCON: Nigeria’s Falcons trash Kenya ladies 4 – 0

Super Falcons and Medkila IL goalkeeper, Tochukwu Oluehi has described the side’s emphatic win against Harambee Starlets of Kenya at the 10th Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cameroon as good.

The Falcons defeated the east Africans 4-0 in Saturday’s group B final match at Stade Limbe, Cameroon.

Goals from the quartet, Ngozi Okobi, Faith Ikidi, Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie proved adequate to hand the title holders three points against the hapless Kenyans.

Oluehi said that despite the good performance shown so far in the championship, the Falcons still need to work harder to be able to claim a record eighth AWCON title in Cameroon.

“Falcons are trying their very best so far in the championship, maintaining the summit position at the end of group’s campaign.

“I pray they keep the momentum as they head to the knock-out stage of the competition against South Africa.

“Falcons have done quite well in the championship, but there is lots of work to be done to be champions again.

“Kenya proved not a match to Falcons, I think they are big disappointment in the championship.

“They promised a lot prior to the start of the championship but gave virtually nothing at the end of the day.

“They played without game-plan, team work and merely added to the numbers at the championship,” said the former Sunshine Queens shot stopper to supersport.com.

Oluehi warned that the Falcons must up their game to stand a chance against rivals, Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the semifinal clash.

“Falcons are not yet 100% perfect, they have played more of individual than team play and lose ball at will.

“Against South Africa they will be punished as they will latch on the loose balls to launch counter attack.

“Of course, the semifinals clash against South Africa will be tough, South Africa are as tough as Ghana.

“South Africa are mobile and skillful so we must quickly get hold of their past match videos to work out a counter measure to outsmart them.

“I foresee Falcons progressing to the final at the expense of South Africa once they are able to do the needful,” said the former Rivers Angels goaltender.

Nigeria finished the group campaign at the summit on seven points along with runners-up Ghana, but on superior goals and will confront South Africa in Tuesday’s semifinal at Stade Municipal de Limbe, Limbe.
