Afenifere Youth Forum has lambasted the Arewa youths over statements it said is capable of further destabilizing the Nigerian state, saying such is not acceptable in any form. The Afenifere Youth Forum is an Oduduwa forum comprising concerned and progressive youths from the Yoruba speaking nation with the aim of channeling its energies and resources towards the overall development of the Yoruba republic.
In a press statement issued by its convener, Balogun Babatunde, the forum said ‘’it has, in the last few months, been observing and watching with keen interest, the verbal ‘ejaculation’ and ‘masturbation’ of the Arewa Youth Forum regarding the 2019 presidential elections’’, describing it as unacceptable, a statement credited to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’’.
‘’Since the nation’s flag independence in 1960, the nation has severally gone through series of both leadership and social challenges but its recent dimensions of terrorism and bombings are just unbearable. Sorrowfully, there has not been any sign of a concrete solution that could at least resolve some of the problems thrown up by it chosen capitalist economic system, as it relates to governance, insecurity, issues within the political parties, ethnic squabble, unemployment and the challenges of social amenities’’, the statement added.
It explained that in ‘’all these crises situation, the victims have been mainly the poor people of Nigeria. The rich and ruling elite have always find their way out of every financial crisis; even during economic depression. The poor have been the subject of manipulation, sufferings and economic starvations’’.
The group posited that in ‘’spite of all the aforementioned leadership and social challenges in the country, the Yorubas have severally tolerated the Nigerian state patiently with the hope of a brighter tomorrow but the statement of the Arewa Youth Forum to the Vice President of the country regarding the 2019 general elections is not only insulting to the Yorubas but also shows that the group is claiming ownership to the Nigeria project’’; saying Nigeria is an amalgamation of ethnic groups and the presidential seat is also open to any of the regions.
Balogun therefore warned the Arewa Youth Forum to thread softly on anything that ‘’involves our collective psyche and threatens the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, as a person and his office as the Acting president.
