Borno Govt. distributes 2.7m nets to combat malaria in 6 years

Akeredolu flags off distribution of 2.9million insecticide nets in Ondo

The Borno State Government says it has so far distributed 2.7 million mosquito treated nets to check cases of malaria, in the past six years.

The Commissioner for Health, Mr Haruna Mshelia, told our reporter on Tuesday in Maiduguri that the nets were distributed to expectant mothers and deserving families.

He further disclosed that 888, 000 doses of malaria drugs were also distributed to children under five years.

“Over 888, 000 of prophylaxis drugs were provided to under-5 children during the first phase of the distribution.

“Similar drugs will be distributed under the second phase of the programme.

“Besides, anti-malarial drugs are also provided free in all health facilities in the state,” he said.

Mshelia also said that arrangement had been concluded to fumigate some areas in Maiduguri and other major towns in the state.

According to him, the state government has provided modern medical equipment to 40 health facilities and set up 54 clinics in Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) camps.

Mshelia said that the state government was working in collaboration with Dangote, Bill and Melinda Foundation to enhance routine immunisation in the state.

The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to control maternal mortality, malaria and polio diseases as well as enhance healthcare delivery.
