Recession exit: South-Africa-based don makes case for sustainable growth

A university lecturer, Mr Bashir Yankuzu, on Thursday lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for taking the country out of economic recession.

Yankuzu told our reporter in Minna that Buhari’s economic team demonstrated high sense of professionalism by achieving the feat within a very short time.

The lecturer’s commendation followed the second quarter report of the National Bureau of Statistics which indicated that Nigeria was out of recession.

Yankuzu, of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, said that the task ahead of government was for the achievement to reflect positively on prices of essential goods and improve people’s livelihoods.

Yankuzu also called on the federal government to provide modern farming implement at subsidised rates for farmers.

According to him, paying priority attention to the agriculture will ensure food security and create more job opportunities for unemployed youths.

“We are blessed with fertile land to produce assorted food crops for both local consumption and export if concerted efforts are made in supporting our farmers with basic agricultural inputs,” he added.
