Court reopens Metuh’s case, orders FG to arraign lawyer, 3 Channels TV staff

The family of embattled National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, has expressed displeasure over the spate of sensational reports circulating in the media on their son.

Chief Gilbert Metuh, in a statement for the family said “Our attention has been drawn to a report circulating in a section of the media, suggesting that our son and spokesperson of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh made some public comments regarding his on-going case with the EFCC.

“We are indeed shocked by this report as Chief Metuh, being a seasoned lawyer of many years standing, had following his appearance in court not only refrained from making public comments but had also directly barred his family and aides from making public comments on the matter since it is now in court.”

The however pleaded that issues concerning Chief Metuh and the case with the EFCC should not in any way be sensationalized in the media, “especially as it is now before a court of competent jurisdiction”, he added.

It would be recalled that Chief Olisa Metuh was arrested by the EFCC and he is currently facing trial for receiving N400 million from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, while the said sum is believed to be part of a $2.1 billion meant for arms procurement but which was allegedly diverted by Mr. Dasuki.

He was ordered by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday to be remanded in Kuje prison.

On Monday, it was reported that the PDP’s New Media Director, Deji Adeyanju visited Metuh at the Kuje Prison on Saturday, and brought out the embattled politicians messages in a series of tweets.

According to Adeyanju, Metuh did not show any sign of giving up on the fight to maintain his innocence on the matter for which he is being prosecuted. Metuh reportedly said his arrest was a ploy by Buhari to distract Nigerians from “the real issues”. “This is what they want to do for the next 3 years. Distracting Nigerians from the real issues,” Adeyanju quoted Metuh as saying. Continuing, Metuh reportedly blasted the Buhari administration of having no better plans of alleviating the sufferings of Nigerians rather.
