Afrobeat icon and social crusader, Femi Anikulapo-Kuti has lamented the poor state of the nation as the country’s economy and development continued to deteriorate.
He described Nigeria’s present predicament as the direct result of the wickedness of the government and the elite class.
Femi said this while speaking to journalists at the Fela Debate 8 which is part of the programmes marking Felabration 2016 in Lagos.
He noted that Fela started speaking in the early 1970s when he was just about 9 years of age, and today at 54 the situation has not improved.
“We are not moving forward, we are still moving backwards; we are still praising stupidity and mediocrity.
“The elites are the ones guilty of this and they have continued encourage it.”
Afrobeat icon and social crusader, Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, however, called on the youths to divert their energies into bringing better life for the citizens. “We are a great people; we can still laugh in the midst of so much suffering. It’s high time we channel those energies into bringing better lives for ourselves.” He added.
He thereafter condemned the removal of ‘history’ from education curriculum.
He queried why a government would not want the upcoming youths to know about where it was coming from.
Earlier, notable speakers had taken turn to dissect the theme of the symposium, “Movement Against Second Slavery”.
