The Federal Government on Thursday began door-to-door distribution of foodstuff to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yola, Adamawa.

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Mustapha Maihaja, inaugurated the programme at Malkohi IDPs camp, Yola.

Represented by Daniel Obot, Deputy Director, Relief and Rehabilitation in the agency, Maihaja, said the exercise was part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention initiative for the North-East region.

He said the exercise was aimed at preventing diversion of the items.

“The Door-to-Door food items distribution is targeted to reach each household living at the Internally Displaced Persons camps in the state.

“Each household of four family will be given 60Kgs of different food items for the duration of one month,” Maihaja said.

Idris Garga, NEMA Coordinator in charge of Adamawa and Taraba, said the programme would be extended to communities still hosting displaced persons.

Garga said the intervention would cover the returnees and warned the beneficiaries against selling the items.
