As the Nigerians continue to groan under the present economic realities, a group, True Change Advocacy, has launched campaign for “true and desirable change”.
The new group over the weekend at a media briefing in Lagos said it was poised to drive home the message of true change that the citizens of Nigeria deserve.
The launching of the campaign coincided with the 56th Independence Day anniversary of Nigeria.
The group noted that Nigerians have suffered enough but asked for a situation where elected public office holders are tasked on accountability and transparency.
The Convener, Goddy Amaeziechi lamented the pains and hardships Nigerians are currently going through. “The change we were promised by President Muhammadu Buhari was built on unrealistic foundation, hence the present untold hardships on the citizens.” He added.
Also, another member of the group, Comrade Tony Asegu, reiterated the vision of the group to alert Nigerians to elect leaders without inducements, noting that it was time to do away with money politics.
On his part, Charles Okoronkwo said they are out to launch a campaign aimed at reorientating Nigerians and make them realise they can effect the change they desire through their votes.
Richard Johnson believed the True Change Advocacy would lead the movement for ensuring equal opportunity for everyone qualified to participate in election. They also plan to force out the menace of godfatherism in Nigerian politics.
On what the organisation has for women, Mrs Lametu Asegu said the group would reach out to women, making them realise the need to get more involved in politics and decisions for who leads them. She noted that women are the most victimised when there is bad leadership.
The Convener also established the fact that they are not being sponsored by any political party.
He said they are rather being sponsored by their conscience and the need to have a Nigeria where citizen lives are transformed for the better.
Part of the strategies to drive the campaign according to Chukwu Emeka includes the use of social media and all other media partners.
The group also planned to go to the grassroots to mobilise the populace. The scope is said to be extended to all parts of Nigeria in the coming months.
