JAMB to commence 2019/2020 UTME registration in January - Board

The Principal, Ikoyi Prisons School, ASP Ibikunle Idris, on Saturday expressed confidence that the inmates, who wrote the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Computer Base Test (CBT), would perform excellently.

Ikoyi Prisons School expects fantastic 2016 UTME results – OfficialIdris made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, shortly after the examination.

NAN reports that the 39 inmates of the Ikoyi School were part of the 343 inmates nationwide, who wrote the examination organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The principal said that the inmates were mentally and physically well-prepared for the examination, and were adequately motivated.

Idris said that the commitment exhibited by the inmates while preparing for the examination had convinced him that they would come out with excellent scores.

“I want to say that the morale of the inmates are high because we took time to expose them to lots of instructional materials that would assist them for the examination.

“However, we are still faced with the problem of inadequate teaching and learning materials.

“For instance, only 15 computers are being used for the examination which will lead us into taking the examination in multiple sessions.

“If we had 39 and above computers, the candidates would not have to write the examination in batches.

“Rather, the entire inmates will go into the examination at once and finish at the same time, thereby saving us a lot of stress and time.

“We, therefore, seize this opportunity to appeal to public-spirited individuals and government at all levels to encourage the inmates that are showing zeal to continue their education by donating more of the instructional materials.

“I want to say that this examination had been going on smoothly as envisaged, and the candidates themselves have not have any cause to complain.

“They have all shown high skills on the usage of the system, and this is very encouraging.

“However, due to inadequate computers, the examination will have to be taken in multiple sessions,” he said.

The JAMB official in-charge of the examination in the centre, Mr Kazeem Balogun, described the examination as smooth, without any technical hitch.

Balogun told NAN that accreditation for the examination started at about 8.00a.m., with no challenges recorded.

He said that about 20 minutes to the commencement of the examination, the inmates were taken through a test run of the facilities, and how to go about the exercise on the platform. (NAN)
