Insecurity: Akwana community makes case for FG to revive police barracks

Following frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in Akwana community in Wukari local government Area of Taraba State, District Head of Akwana, Chief Paul Agbo on Friday appealed to the Federal Government to revive the Mobile Police Barrack in the area to check the attacks.

Agbo told newsmen at Akwana that reviving the Barrack would tackle the fragile security situation in the area.

He expressed concern that the Barrack which was built in 2003, had not been put to use by the Mobile Policemen.

“The MOPOL barracks was built in 2003 through the efforts of the then representative and now senator, Emmanuel Bwacha.

“It was built to tackle the ethnic clashes between Tivs and the infiltrating herdsmen, and also to ensure a sustainable peace in the area.

“Unfortunately, since the structures were erected, the Barack has not been occupied by police.

“We are aware that a group of Police officers had previously come to see the state of the Barrack but nothing is done to revive it,” he said.

The chief also urged the Federal Government to demarcate the border between Taraba and Benue in the area to forestall any possible clash over encroachment on land.

Agbo explained that the only genuine demarcation that took place in the area was in1923 and urged the Federal government to do something urgently to avert any clash over claims on land.

It could be recalled that the barrack which was built in 2003 is being surrounded by grasses and part of the structures vandalised.
