Labour commends Ambode for executing pro-people policies

The president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabara, has commended the Lagos State governor, Akinwumi Ambode, for executing pro-people policies and determination to provide quality transportation in the state.

Ayuba, who led officials of the NLC and management of its Labour City Transport Service on a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, noted that the success of the present administration is the result of the commitment to providing an enablement for transportation.

Recalling the years of engagement with the state, the union leader noted that the land allocated to it for the purpose of a depot is already a subject of legal determination.

He added that the land is stall of major value to the transport company they are operating.

He further noted that years of military intervention in the Abacha had served to negatively affect the operations of the transport Company.

While stating the operations of the Labour city transport service is to provide subsidized transport for workers, Wabara said its ticketing arrangement as presently being undertaking is fraught with challenges.

He expresses Labour determination to improve the services by expanding the routes it operates as well as leveraging the support of its international partners to improve transportation especially in Lagos.

He further urged the state government to avail itself of the window of opportunity for free coaches and wagons promised to Nigeria by Chinese government.

In his response, the Commissioner averred that there are several areas of collaboration opened to the NLC which should be explored.

He promised to facilitate the quick resolution of issues raised adding that the state will continue to partner with Labour in the overall interest of Lagos state.
