A 27-years-old man, Nwafather Okoro, was on Tuesday arraigned at an Asaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a lorry battery.

The prosecutor, Mrs Victoria Bardi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 31, at Akwa-red Camp, on Asaba-Benin expressway, Asaba.

Bardi said the accused could not give a satisfactory explanation on how he got the battery when he was accosted by the police and was believed to have stolen it.

She said that the offence contravened Section 430(1) of the Criminal Code Cap C 21 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

The accused pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Mrs Okonkwo Akanume, granted him bail in the sum of N120,000 and a surety in like sum.

Akanume ordered that the surety must be a civil servant and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She added that the surety must own a landed property in the state and must also provide his/her two passport photographs.

The case was adjourned until Aug. 21, for definite hearing.
