A recent survey carried out by NOIpolls reveal that majority of Nigerian populace are fast adjusting their expenditures and lifestyles as the country’s economy bites harder.
According to CEO NOIpolls, Dr Ben Ihua, the survey result indicated that most Nigerians now purchase locally made products as exchange rates remain on the high.
Further measures employed by citizens to survive the hardship include patronage of the imported used clothes and other materials known in local parlance as bend-down-selects.
Others confirmed they have taken to subsistence farming cultivating their backyards and gardens at any available empty space around the house.
Dr Ihua further revealed that some of the respondents also confirmed a change in their eating habits by skipping either the breakfast or lunch to be able to sustain themselves.
On the likely ways out, the respondents called on the government to introduce commodities price control to check the excessive inflation, as well as a cut in petrol pump price.
Some of them also believe that workers should be paid their salary arrears running into several months in different states of the federation. About 4 percent of the respondents also opined that a quick resolve of the Niger Delta crisis will stem the effects of the hardship.
