The Provost, Ogun State College of Health Technology, Dr. Abiodun Oladunjoye has said that arrangements had been concluded with the Kwara State University to run Bachelors Degree in science and other courses in the College.
Oladunjoye made this disclosure at the 40th Anniversary Lecture and Award Ceremony of the College, held at college premises in Ilese-Ijebu, area of the State.
He said that it was imperative to run degree courses as the volume and influx of the students intends to bag degree courses was increasing, noting that among the course to be awarding degree includes, Environmental Health, Medical Laboratory Sciences and Health Information Management among others.
“Our status as College of Health Technology has given us the opportunity to expand the scope of operation and widen its horizon. So, we have successfully concluded arrangement with the Kwara State University in awarding degree course, as soon as possible we shall begin to award degree on Environmental Health, Medical Laboratory Sciences and Health Information Management among others”, Oladunjoye said.
Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, said the success story and the achievements being recorded by the college for four decades could not be over emphasised, saying that the theme of the lecture “Achieving Cleaner more Sustainable and Healthier Future” was apt putting into consideration the climate change experience in the country and world at large.
While acknowledging the cooperation of staff and students whose professionalism has helped the college to surpass on academic excellence in the array of other colleges in the country, saying that government would do everything possible to achieve more on their academic professionals.
Mujota, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Shefiu Rasheed said to achieve cleaning, sustainable achievements and mitigate climate change, the people needs to preserve trees and grasses of their environments, noting that burning of unwanted plants, woods and coal for cooking could increase quantities of air pollution which could lead to serious health issues, like cancer, respiratory defects and all other health related problems.
The Guest Lecturer at the event, on the THEME ” Achieving CLEANER MORE SUSTAINABLE HEALTHIER FUTURE”, Director, Primary Health, Ikenne Local Government Council Areas, Dr. Ademola Talabi, stated that change in the green house effect, which affect the amount of heat retained by earth’s atmosphere, saying that natural method affect climate change includes; ice cores, tree ring glaciers, length pollen remains and ocean sediment.
“To achieve a cleaner and healthier environment in the nearest future, there must be an urgent need for the growing health community to support the growing movement for a cleaner, more sustainable and healthier future, which everyone must abide with to mitigate climate change”, Dr. Talabi opined.
He said earth temperature depends on the balance between energy entering and leaving the planet system, when incoming energy from the sun is absorbed by the earth system, earth warm when the sun’s energy is reflected back into the space earth avoids warming and cools down, adding that many factors both natural and human can cause change in earth balance.
Dr. Talabi, however called on individuals and corporate bodies to ensure to incorporate natural ways of making the environment clean such such as bush cleaning, reduce emissions intake and plant trees in the environment, them to avoid the uses of propellants and other chemicals.
