The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of 980 suspects – including 116 persons for robbery, 205 cultists, 38 rape suspects and seven kidnappers, in the last six months.
The Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali told journalists at Eleweran – Abeokuta, the Command Headquarters that the command also recovered 45 pieces of assorted arms, 125 ammunitions, 69 vehicles and 297 sacks of Indian hemp loaded in a truck from suspects during the same period.
He put the value of the property recovered at N6,020,000:00.
He said seven robbery suspects were killed during gun encounter with the Police in different locations in the state.
The Police Commissioner who said the Command had recorded some achievements in its crime fighting and prevention, paraded 35 other persons including robbery suspects, cultists, three kidnappers and a fake soldier; Abiodun Emmanuel, who were arrested this December.
He vowed that the Command would continue to make the state unsafe for criminals particularly during the yuletide, and also urged residence to be vigilant against the insurgents and their accomplices in strange attires.
According to him, there had been alert in the security circle intimating security agencies that members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect are plotting to carry out “huge attacks” in unspecified parts of the country.
He advised Ogun residents to watch out closely for innocent teenage – girls that cover their body with veils, saying such people “could be used by the insurgents to convey and detonate bombs.”
He noted that dozens of Hausa – Fulani teenage girls who were arrested recently in Mowe – Ibafo motor park by the Command while being readied for ferrying to Lagos state by their traffickers for suspicious motives, had been sent back to Kano State.
The Police Commissioner reiterated that the law banning the use or sales of explosives – bangers, knockout, fireworks is still in force and warned Ogun residents against using explosives during the yuletide.
