Oyo Commissioner calls for sports development at local levels

The Newly Appointed Commissioner for Youth & Sports in Oyo State, Mr. Abayomi Oke, has called on stakeholders in Sporting Circle to join hands with the state Government in reviving the sector by promoting sporting activities at local level.

He made the call during an interaction with members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Oyo State Chapter in his office.

Oke, reaffirmed his commitment to develop and improve under-age competitions from ward to national standard without preference to a specific sport, noting that capable hands will be employed.

The Commissioner appealed to private sectors and well to do individual to be involved in the development of Sports through their financial commitment and policies that will benefit both parties.

While Promising to improve on the payment of match bonuses of State teams and facilitation of more sporting facilities, the Commissioner charged Sports Journalists not to focus solely on football but look for ways of promoting other sports.

He also appealed to them to always balance their stories and verify facts at their disposal from appropriate quarters with a view to develop the state in totality.

Also Speaking, the General Manager, Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, Rasheed Balogun commended the supporters of the club and players for optimum cooperation, adding that all variables will be put in place for the team to excel.

In his address, the chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter (SWAN), Niyi Alebiosu, said the body will continue to play her role as expected.

He urged members of the group to be part of developmental process in order to change the face of sport in the state.
