Synod urges Nigerians to detest corruption

Synod of the Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria CRCN on Thursday rose from its 111th General Church Council meeting and urged Nigerians to detest corruption for the Buhari’s fight against the vice to succeed.

The Christian body noted that the Mohammadu Buhari led administration’s fight against corruption which is targeted at alleged corrupt individuals and financial institutions can only be won when religious leaders inculcate the virtues of integrity, transparency and accountability in their members.

In a communique issued at the end of the synod and signed by the President of the Synod, Rev. Dr. Caleb Ahima and General Secretary Rev. David Fachano the church called on Christians to live up to their responsibility of offering true service to God and humanity.

“There is a collapse in the observance of Christian family values and there is need for Christians to be more committed to avoid strange doctrines to sweep away the true virtues of Christianity.

“We urge the national leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria to be resolute and never take side with government at the detriment of Christian community which is passing through perilous time,” part of the communique read.

On the state of education in the country, the Synod frowned at the new education curriculum scrapping Christian Religious Knowledge CRK and Islamic Religious Knowledge IRK and merging them to form Civic Education.

The Christian assembly lamented that in the new curriculum, Jesus Christ, the son of God is referred to as one of the prophets, wondering why government would define for Christians what to call Christ, even as they condemned activities of some states government in the north who completely removed  CRK and projected only IRK in their school curricula.
