ANXIETY as two killed in Taraba violence

The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Saturday’s supplementary election into Kurmi/Gashaka/Sardauna House of Representatives seat in Taraba, Hon. Dan-Asabe Hosea has expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious come Saturday.

Taraba rerun elections: PDP Reps candidate confident of victoryHosea in a chat with journalists in Jalingo on Thursday said despite efforts by the opposition All Progressive Congress, (APC) to manipulate the court process, the electorates who voted him overwhelmingly during the last election have vowed to tell the world that is him they want.

“God gave me the mandate through the people. The people are still there and they have assured me they will come out enmass to tell the world that they voted me.

“The funny thing is that my election was held the same day with Presidential and Senatorial elections, accreditation and voting was done simultaneously, but only my election was said to have not taken place in 19 polling units,” he said.

He appealed to the people of his constituency to be law abiding and not to react to any form of provocation from any quarter.

On his achievements in the National Assembly before the appellate court ordered rerun in 19 polling units, Hosea said within the five months he stayed in the National Assembly, he sponsored four motions that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of his constituency.

According to him, he had moved a motion for the development of the Mambilla Hydro Power project which according to him will provide jobs, contribute power to the national grid which will help boost industrial growth.

“I have also move a motion for the upgrade of Gashaka Gumti National Park which is the best in Africa. The motion has been approved and referred to the House Committee on tourism for further action.

“I have also move a motion for the construction of Mararaban Baissa-Abong- Ngoroje road, which will open up the area and bring investors to harness our God giving natural resources like Cocoa, oil palm, rubber and tea among others.

“If we are talking of diversifying our economy, we must stop over dependence on oil and develop our mineral and tourism sectors. The price of oil is dropping by the day and we must look beyond oil to come out of our economic quagmire,” he said.

It could be recalled that the Court of Appeal sitting in Yola, Adamawa state had in December last year, nullified the election of Hosea and ordered supplementary polls in 19 polling units.
