Ugwuanyi directs immediate resettlement of victims of rainstorm

Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has directed the immediate resettlement of victims of rainstorm that destroyed property worth millions of Naira in some parts of the state on Monday.

The Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mrs Nkechi Eneh, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday.

Eneh said that the state government sympathised with the victims and would do its best to resettle them.

She recalled that the incident that occurred Monday night at Agbogugu and Ugbawka in Awgu and Nkanu East Local Government Areas respectively, led to the destruction of over 100 houses.

Eneh also said that public schools and other public facilities, including a large poultry farm was affected.

“Following the unfortunate rainstorm at Agbogugu and Ugbawka which led to the destruction of over 100 homes, schools, a large poultry farm and other public facilities, the state government sympathises with the victims.

“The governor has, consequently, directed the SEMA to start immediate response by providing shelters and relief materials to the affected persons.

“The governor wishes to use this opportunity to assure persons affected by the disaster that his administration will do everything possible to protect and provide them with the necessary assistance to cushion the effect of the loss,” Eneh said.

She said that the state government was committed to the welfare and security of lives and property of residents of the state.

Our correspondent reports that the state governor had personally visited victims of the disaster and directed the distribution of relief materials to them.
