Unpaid salaries: FC Taraba players end 10 days protest

Players of troubled FC Taraba have agreed to call off their protest over 11 months unpaid salaries after a frosty meeting with their sponsor, the Taraba State government on Wednesday.

The players have been protesting unpaid wages of 11 months since December 14 by sleeping outside of the Taraba State Government House.

After 10 days and nine nights of sleeping out in a peaceful protest over money owed them, two of the players met with the Taraba governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, which offered little to cheer about.

The governor, according to the players, offered to pay two months out of the salary arrears after arguing that the players had been paid three months salaries which they (the FC Taraba players) denied and put the record straight that they were paid just a month out of 12.

Supersport.com has been informed that the Taraba State government promised to pay two months out of the 11 months. The players were assured that the remainder will be paid by instalment from January.

However, the League Management Company (LMC), which oversees the Nigerian top-flight, paid the protesting FC Taraba players equivalent of their one month salaries from fees due to the club on Wednesday.

The players confirmed the payment to supersport.com.

FC Taraba are one of the four relegated clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) last season.
