Viewers commend organisers of 2016 AMVC Awards

Television viewers have commended the organisers of the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) ceremony which held on Saturday at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

The viewers who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja said the ceremony was standard in content and output.

They said the event, televised on many DSTV channels, was up a notch from what viewers usually got from most Nigerian events and awards.

Sandra Chukwudozie, a viewer, told NAN that she was impressed with the timing and setting of the AMVCA show.

“I couldn’t believe the show was being held in Nigeria. It looked so sophisticated. The hall, the red carpet and performances were on point.

“What shocked me the most was that, there was no delay in timing, what we refer to as, African time; they started the show 7p.m. prompt. This is definitely a first,’’ she said.

Mr Austin Ugo, another viewer, told NAN that he had “a new-found respect for the organisers of the event’’.

“I must say the organisers of the 2016 AMVCA have really made Africa proud. The event was classy and well executed.

“Aside the promptness in timing, we didn’t experience the normal poor broadcast issues, the hosts were amazing and there were no sluggish behaviors amongst presenters.

“I thought the show was holding in South Africa because of the quality, not until a comedian, Thomas, I think, made reference to the event in Lagos and making jokes of kidnappers in Port-Harcourt.

“I will only ask for an improvement in the sound system,’’ Ugo said.

To Emmanuel Nwoko, also a viewer, he was impressed by the category Of Best Short Film or Online Video, saying the movie inspired people to use the free internet access to pursue their dreams with no excuse.

“I remember the first time I came across Folarin `Falz’ Falana, it was on Instagram. He had and still has those short comedy videos that were made almost every day.

“He made me laugh hard and now, he is rubbing shoulders with Funke Akindele and has won an award.

“We have seen many people become celebrities through the use of social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram.

“This should encourage people to pursue their dreams. There are no longer boundaries and obstacles,’’ Nwoko said.

NAN reports that the AMVCA ceremony, a yearly event was sponsored by Amstel Malta, and held on Saturday at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

The show is aimed at recognising and celebrating talents across the continent. (NAN)
