US consulate tasks ‎Nigerian youths on entrepreneurial spirit

Nigerian youths have been urged to keep up their commitment to entrepreneurship development to sustain economic progress in the country and the African continent.

At a welcome event organised for the 29 young Nigerians who attended the 4th edition of the Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Centre (YALI RLC) in Accra Ghana, to discuss and engage on a new approach to leadership and entrepreneurship with the goal of proffering solutions to the current economic challenges facing the country.

Representative of the US Consulate, Mr Robert Bob Kerr, said the purpose of YALI was to provide high-quality training, mentoring, and networking support to a great number of enterprising young Africans.

He also encouraged the Nigerian YALI alumni not to put out the flame of enterprise that got them selected to attend the YALI Regional Leadership Center in the first place.

Host of the event, Managing Director of Tromville Investments Limited, Mr. AdeyemiAdeniyi while speaking said his organisation believes strongly in entrepreneurship and the ability of Nigerian Youths to solve the unemployment problem. Thus the reason behind sponsoring the event.

Also, IfyOssai of Africa 2.0 reminded these emerging young leaders that they are the change they seek in Nigeria and they owe it to themselves and the nation to commit to finding and implementing sustainable solutions that will in turn, leapfrog the development of the nation and Africa.

In his closing remarks, the US Consulate representative Mr Robert Bob Kerr pointed out that the first ever YALI leadership training in Nigeria will be held at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, ASCON Badagry, Lagos and it will also accommodate participants from 8 other West African Countries.

The event had representatives from the United States Consulate, USAID, Africa 2.0, Master Card Foundation, GIMPA, alongside other key players in Youth development.

The intensive orientation and training of the 4th West African Cohort ran from 1st August 2016 to 2nd September 2016, 405 participants have been trained in Entrepreneurship, Public Sector Management and Civil Society Leadership.
