Saraki raises concern over his safety

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, on Saturday inaugurated an 80-bed capacity hospital built by Sen. Hassan Mohammed (PDP-Yobe) in Potiskum, Yobe State.

Saraki, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu, handed over the hospital to the Federal Government.

While commending the lawmaker for such an achievement, Saraki said the hospital would afford residents of Potiskum the opportunity to seek prompt medical attention rather than travelling several miles to neighbouring states for same purpose.

“I am committed to helping Sen. Mohammed with getting the support of the Federal Government in the running of this hospital.

“This is so, that its benefits to the people of Potiskum and Yobe at large, would be guaranteed and sustained.

“This is the kind of leaders we find today in the Nigerian Senate. People who are abandoning the practice of yesterday’s politics.

“It must be strongly lauded that this is a PDP senator, in an APC-led state, donating this edifice to an APC government.

“To build and freely transfer a hospital of this capacity to a government operating under a party other than his, for the service of his people, is a signature statement of extraordinary leadership.

“The lesson is that what matters is not the political party or the government in power, but the love you have for your people and your connection with them,’’ he said.

He added that rather than give out money, a common practice among politicians, the lawmaker decided to hand over a structure that would impact better on the lives of the people.

According to him, the hospital will go a long way in saving lives, particularly that of women and children.

He urged other highly placed Nigerians to emulate Sen. Mohammed.

Saraki urged the Federal Government and other tiers of government to ensure that the hospital was efficiently managed.

Saraki further called on the Ministry of Health to ensure that the hospital received priority attention.
