PDP is back to offer good governance to Nigerians – National Vice-Chairman

National Vice-Chairman (South-South) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Emmanuel Ogidi, said with Wednesday’s Supreme Court verdict, the party was back to offer good governance that Nigerians desired.

Ogidi told our reporter on Thursday in Abuja that reactions to the court’s judgment showed that Nigerians were not only expecting PDP to be vibrant opposition, but to take over power in 2019.

“We have learnt what Nigerians really want, not what we want; so, we now give them what they want, which is good governance. We have learnt that.

“We are the solution to the Nigerian problems”.

“We were driven to the forest and in the forest, we now saw that some of the animals we ignored, we have to live with them; so, we have been able to conquer those animals and we have now come back to town.

“But, this time, we have come back with caution. Some of the excesses that we displayed, you can be sure that we are not going to display them again. We now understand the feelings of the Nigerian state.’’

Ogidi said that Nigerians knew PDP to be the only party with capacity to rule the country, and that the All Progressive Congress (APC) was not a party but an association not ready for power.

He said that the PDP already had strategies in place to win the APC in 2019.

On lessons learnt from the party’s leadership crisis, Ogidi said it had helped the PDP to understand the importance of following the rule of law and doing the wish of the people.

“We now understand what Nigerians really want and not what the party want.’’

On the way forward, he said that the party leadership would soon convene an extended caucus meeting to reunite members.

He added that after such meeting, the National Caretaker Committee would work towards achieving its mandate of organising acceptable national convention that would produce the party’s new national officers.

“The assignment given to them was to organise a convention, and the plan for convention is a process; so, the national executive will meet and take a decision.

“This is the only thing we have to do now and put the national officers in place, because before now, we had done all the necessary things, remaining only the election of national officers.’’
