UK police say working to reopen London Holborn metro station after smoke alert

The British Transport Police (BTP) said that they were working on the reopening of the Holborn metro station in central London after it was closed and evacuated Tuesday amid reports of smoke.

“We’re working to reopen Holborn underground station after a defective train caused an evacuation. Thanks for bearing with us @LondonFire,” the BTP posted on their official Twitter page.

The BBC broadcaster reported the London Ambulance saying that their presence was not required at the site of the incident.

Earlier in the day, the BTP said that the station was closed after reports of smoke.

The London Fire Brigade in a tweet confirmed the incident and said that “two fire engines and 10 firefighters” arrived at the site, and that the station has been evacuated.

This is the second such incident in less than a week.

On Friday, smoke and fire were reported at London’s Oxford Circus metro station.
