10, 000 registered applicants yet to claim national ID cards in Kano State – NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says no fewer than 10, 000 unclaimed identify cards are lying in the agency’s office in Kano.

The NIMC Coordinator in the state, Malam Mohammed Auwal-Sanusi, disclosed this to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.

Auwal-Sanusi said the commission was still waiting for about 10, 000 registered applicants to come forward and collect their cards which had been processed long time ago.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on the registered applicants to come and collect the cards as they will be used in future programmes to be designed by the Federal Government, “he said.

According to him, the National Identity Card was important to the federal government and beneficial to every citizen irrespective of age barriers.

He said even children were not exempted from the scheme provided that their parents could present their birth registration certificate to be used by the commission in issuing the card.

“The National Identity Card is a social security which every citizen is expected to register for.

“With the vigorous media enlightenment campaign and adequate awareness, the public will be at an ample liberty to discern the importance of acquiring the card, “the coordinator said.

He commended Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje for equipping 50 NIMC registration centres with V-Sat and Solar Power facilities for the successful take-off of the scheme in the state.

He added that the support given to the commission by Kano State Government had boosted the agency’s resolve in leaving no stone unturned in discharging the national assignment with diligence.
