Alleged cult member docked, gets N50,000 bail

A 24-year-old man, Lekan Oyenuga, was on Wednesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly belonging to a cult known as Eye confraternity.

The accused is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, parading as a member of an unlawful society and belonging to an unlawful society.

Oyenuga, who has no fixed address, however, pleaded not guilty to the three counts.

The Prosecutor, Police Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the offences were committed on Aug. 23, at Ikosi area of Ketu in Lagos State.

Ihiehie said Oyenuga was caught parading himself as a member of the said group, also known as NFNF (No Friend No Foe).

He said that the accused wore a blue, red and yellow T-shirt, tagged 88, with the said cult’s symbol boldly engraved on it.

The prosecutor said the accused was arrested by an anti-robbery squad along CMD Road in Ikosi Ketu, and taken to the Ketu Police Station.

The offences contravened Sections 41, 160(d) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She said that the surety must show proof of means of livelihood, with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government for two years.

Kubeinje adjourned the case until Oct. 8, for hearing.
