Residents of Okota appeal to Ambode over bad roads

Some residents of Okota in Cele axis of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State have sent a Save our Soul (SOS) to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode over the bad roads in their area.

The residents, who made the appeal in an interview with our correspondent on Thursday, explained that whenever it rained, the roads become impassable and their houses and shops flooded due to the damaged drains.

A resident, Mr Chibuzor Nwakanma, lamented the deplorable state of most of the street roads and asked the government to urgently come to their assistance.

Nwakanma said the roads were beginning to create a huge gully, adding that the rainy season had really exposed the sorry state of the roads.

“The situation is very bad; the government should quickly find a lasting solution because both the residents and traders can no longer bear the pain of driving through the terrible roads.

“There is no week that I did not take my car to the mechanic for one fault or the other due to bad roads,” he said.

Mrs Glory Ali, a civil servant, said that any time it rained few commercial buses ply the roads which leads to increase in transport fare.

“Since the roads are not pliable whenever it rains due to this bad road, it is difficult to get a bus and when one sees any, there is always an increase in the transport fare.

“As a civil servant, I ought to be at my workplace on or before 8 a.m., but it is difficult to achieve even when I leave home early,” she said.

A trader, Malam Yusuf Abubakar, said the situation of the roads had become worrisome and it had drastically affected sales of his goods.

“Government should help us here in Okota; everywhere is just too bad, our shops are flooded due to the damaged drainage and this has affected the sales of my goods,” he said.

When our correspondent visited the area, most of the roads were in bad condition and houses and shops were flooded owing largely to the damaged drains.
