Group advocates increased investment in citizens

Mrs Clara Okorie, Co-Founder, Pens and Dreams Ltd., says that to drive socio-economic development in Nigeria, and indeed Africa, governments should not just invest in systems but also equipping the capacity of its citizens to spur growth.

Okorie told a news conference on Tuesday in Lagos that focusing on systems without investing adequately in the personal growth of citizens would jeopardise the efforts of African leaders.

She said that equipping citizens with the required resources would unleash their potential and have ripple positive effects on the continent.

According to her, accelerated national development starts with personal growth and leadership skills.

Okorie said that to support the government drive the desired change, Pens and Dreams in collaboration with National Orientation Agency and certified John Maxwell team coaches would conduct a personal growth and leadership training.

The summit with the theme: “Elevate Africa by Becoming a Person of Influence”, will hold on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 in Lagos.

According to her, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has confirmed his attendance as the guest speaker, to deepen the discuss on elevating Africa’s growth.

She said that the summit was built around the four-step process of discovering one’s potential, achieving desired results, replication of success models and enjoying the outcome.

Okorie said that a nationwide certification training and awareness campaign that impacts knowledge, change mindset of citizens would commence after the two-day summit.

Also, Mr Olusoji Oyawoye, a certified John Maxwell trainer, said that the summit would seek to raise a crop of selfless leaders that recognise that leadership was not a right nor entitlement but a privilege.

He said that the summit would have participants from all sectors of the economy that would rise to the task of redefining and returning the nation’s glory.
