Guber elections: Low voter turnout in South East

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday reiterated its neutrality, promising a free and fair bye-election in Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin and Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in Kwara State.

Malam Atahiru Madami, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, gave the assurance in Ilorin while speaking with the newsmen.

The bye-election is scheduled to hold on Saturday (Nov. 17).

It was reported that the seat became vacant following the death, recently, of Funke Adedoyin who had represented the constituency.

“INEC has everything in place to deliver free, fair and credible election to the people of Kwara.

“We want people to have confidence in the commission,’’ Madami said.

The Commissioner said INEC had engaged 1,855 ad hoc staff to ensure credible conduct of the election.

He said that a total of 125,964 Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) had been collected across the four local governments where the election would hold.

Madami said that 11 political parties were supposed to take part in the bye-election, but only five registered.
