Obaseki advocates bottom-top approach in governance

Gov Godwin Obaseki of Edo has charged youth corps members posted to the state to be prepared to make sacrifices, in the interest of peace and unity in the country.

Obaseki gave the charge on Monday at Okada during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘C’ stream II corps members.

The governor, who was represented by Mr Mika Amanokhai, Chairman, NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youths and Special Duties, charged them on the need to take their service year seriously.

He further tasked them on the need to be prepared to make sacrifices that the national service demanded of them.

“The orientation course will certainly prepare you for the daunting challenges ahead of you.

“So, I urge you to take the NYSC scheme seriously and be prepared to make sacrifices that the national service will demand of you,’’ he said.

The governor stressed that as good ambassadors of the scheme, they were expected to be involved in the fight against economic crimes, women and child trafficking, drug trafficking and other vices.

Obaseki commended the youth for their courage and doggedness in answering the clarion call, noting that their posting to the state was an opportunity to selflessly serve their fatherland.

While presenting the 1,543 corps members before the governor, the state coordinator of the scheme, Mr. Adebayo Ojo, thanked the Edo government for her continued support to the scheme.

He particularly thanked the governor for the commencement of the fencing of the NYSC permanent camp site.

Ojo said that he was confident that with the pace of work at the camp, construction works would soon be completed, thus laying all challenges at the temporary camp to rest.
