2019 Poll: NYSC task corp members on neutrality as electoral officers

Mrs Theresa Arokoyo, Niger State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Wednesday, tasked corps members on the need to be neutral, as electoral officers during the 2019 poll.

Arokoyo, made the call during the closing ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘C’, stream 2, orientation course at the NYSC temporary camp in Paikoro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Arokoyo said that corps members needed to stay apolitical during the 2019 poll and not to engage in any act capable of undermining the electoral process.

“As you are aware, you are to perform the role of electoral officers during the 2019 elections.

“There is therefore, the need for you to be above board in your conduct. I strongly urge you to have the highest degree of diligence and discipline.

“You must remain apolitical and function strictly, as unbiased electoral officers throughout the electoral process.

“The NYSC trusts you in the excellent performance of this onerous task, like your predecessors did,” she said.

She urged corps members to make the best use of skills learned in camp to impact positively on their host communities.

Alhaji Ahmad Ketso, the State Acting Governor, represented by Malam Mamman Musa, Commissioner for Water Resources, restated the commitment of the state government to provide conducive atmosphere for the corps members.

“Let me use this opportunity to restate the commitment of the state government, to support the provision of infrastructure for the NYSC.

“The state government is fully aware of its responsibility as contained in the NYSC Act and we are determined to do our best,” he added.

The acting governor also assured corps members of their safety and welfare before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
