APC mourns victims of Lagos building collapse

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it was deeply saddened by the collapsed of a building housing a school and residential units in Ita-Faji, Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said the incidence which led to several deaths and injuries, particularly among children was avoidable.

“When we lose our loved ones, it is never easy, particularly when they are children lost to such horrific and avoidable building collapse.

“We sympathise with the families of the dead victims and pray for the speedy and full recovery of the injured.

“We also pray for the safe rescue of those still reportedly trapped in the collapsed building rubble,“ the APC spokesman said.

He commiserated with the government and people of Lagos State over the incident, saying that the APC was worried that the frequency of building collapse and its attendant human casualties had become abnormal.

He stressed that relevant regulatory authorities across the country must therefore, do all that was necessary to prevent a re-occurrence of these avoidable building collapses.
