Miss Irene Onwuka, Ex-Miss Ambassador for Peace (MAFP)2013, has called on parents to inculcate the right values and attitude in their children to enable them become good citizens.

She made the call in an interview with our correspondent on Friday in Abuja.

According to her there was urgent need to build the consciousness of peace, tolerance and love for neighbour in the mind of every Nigerian child, since they are the leaders of tomorrow.

Onwuka said: ”in the midst of various challenges and crises, it is high time we began to build the consciousness of peaceful coexistence of being proud Nigerians without tribal and religious sentiments.

“When we teach our children the importance of peace, tribal and religious tolerance, then a prosperous and unity Nigeria of our dreams will be guaranteed.

These children need to be educated and well informed, to enable them make informed choices.

She said that she recently launched the ‘Peace Education Campaign’ to schools across Nigeria through the Queen Irene Onwuka Peace Foundation (QIOP), as part of her peace advocacy initiative.

Onwuka added the QIOP in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory Administration was holding a National Children Peace Advocacy concert.

She explained that over 2,500 school children, drawn from different background are expected at the Concert on May 27 to mark the 2018 Children’s Day.

“Nigerian children want to advocate for peace with one voice, calling on their parents and leaders that they want to grow up and fulfill their dreams in a peaceful and united country.

“Parents will hear their children speak, bare their minds, on how they feel over the reports of destruction of lives and properties going on every day in Nigeria,” she said.
