The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed claims that two police officers, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ilemba-Hausa Division, were killed in a clash at Iyano, Ojo.

The clarification followed videos circulating on social media suggesting the officers were killed while attending peace talks that escalated.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described the reports as false and misleading in a post on her X handle @AbimbolaShotayo on Tuesday.

Adebisi stated that no police officers were harmed and no civilian casualties were recorded.

“Police operatives responded promptly to the situation, and normalcy has since been restored.

“Officers continue to maintain a visible presence in the area to ensure sustained peace,” she said.

She clarified that the videos circulating online were unrelated to the incident and should not be regarded as accurate evidence.

Adebisi urged members of the public to verify information through official and credible sources before sharing and to rely on the command’s established communication channels for updates.

The spokesperson reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order while cautioning against the spread of false information that could create unnecessary panic.

Justice James Omotosho, in a judgment, held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had been able to prove the nine-count money laundering charge beyond reasonable doubt.

According to the judge, the defendant is hereby convicted as charged.

Jutsice Omotosho convicted Nwabuoku in all the nine counts and sentenced him to eight years imprisonment in each of the counts, making 72 years.

The judge, however, ordered that the counts shall run concurrently.

Justice Omotosho, who described Nwabuoku’s act of diverting funds meant for security and defence while he served as Director of Finance and Account in the Ministry of Defence as “appalling,” commended the EFCC for being detailed in its prosecution.

The judge observed that the evidence of the 9th prosecution witness that Nwabuoku voluntarily refunded part of the siphoned money of over N200 million during investigation was not controverted by the defence.

Our correspondent reports that Nwabuoku was admitted to a N500 million bail with two sureties in the like sum after he was arraigned on Jan. 15, 2025, on a nine-count amended charge.

The EFCC listed Mr Nwabuoku as the sole defendant in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/240/2024.

Nwabuoku was alleged to have perpetrated the act while serving as the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Ministry of Defence between 2019 and 2021.

The trial of 11 defendants accused of causing the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, was stalled on Monday at the High Court in Jabi, Abuja, following their absence in court.

The Commissioner of Police had charged Shamsu Hassan, Sani Surajo, Hassan Isah, Abubakar Alkamu and Abdulsalam Saleh with nine counts bordering on armed robbery and culpable homicide punishable by death.

Others charged were Suleiman Badamosi, Zaradeen Mohammed, Musa Umar, Mashikur Jamil, Suleiman Sani, and Abubakar Usman.

The Prosecution counsel, Adama Musa, told the court that the defendants were not produced because the correctional facility officers claimed they were unaware of the hearing date.

“On the part of the prosecution, we are in court with four witnesses who we went the extra mile to ensure are present, they abandoned their offices and are in court today,” Musa said.

The trial judge, Justice Mohammed Idris adjourned the matter until Feb. 10 and urged the witnesses to return to court on that day for the trial.

Our correspondent reports that the prosecution alleged that the defendants, armed with firearms, machetes, knives, and charms, broke into Unique Apartment, Katampe, Abuja, on Sept. 29, 2025.

They allegedly caused Maduagwu’s death by forcing her to jump from a three-storey building, leading to fatal injuries.

The defendants were also accused of shooting Barnabas Danlami, who later died from his injuries.

Musa further alleged that the defendants robbed Ms. Fatou Toborteh of a Lenovo laptop, ₦80,000 cash, an iPhone, a Samsung phone, and a white Honda CRV after threatening to kill her and her family.

They also allegedly stole a Samsung S25 phone and a MacBook Air phone valued at ₦5.2 million from Sani Yusuf, as well as three mobile phones and a laptop from David Osas, all residents of the said apartment.

Another resident, Onah George, was reportedly robbed of his iPhone 14, iPad, and an Amazon Kardon speaker under threat of death.

He said that the defendants were later arrested in possession of a pump-action gun and a fabricated AK-47 rifle without licences between Sept. 29 and Oct. 20, 2025.

The offences, according to the prosecution, contravened Sections 6(a)(b)(c), 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, 1997, and Section 221 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were arraigned.

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Lagos, has apprehended three suspects over an alleged cyber blackmail and extortion scheme involving threats to release nude photographs of a victim unless ransom was paid.

The Unit’s spokesperson, DSP Ovie Ewhubare, confirmed this in a statement on Friday.

He said that the suspects, two males and a female, were apprehended after a petition was filed by a complainant who reported being repeatedly threatened by unknown individuals demanding money.

“The complainant received several phone calls in which the callers threatened to release her nude photographs to the public if she failed to pay them.

“Acting out of fear and emotional distress, she transferred money to the suspects.

“The situation escalated when the suspects demanded an additional N10 million prompting her to formally petition the police,” he said

Ewhubare said that upon receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, PSFU, Mr Kayode Ojapinwa, ordered the immediate deployment of operatives to investigate the matter.

“The investigation led to the arrest of the three suspects.

“Investigations revealed that one of the suspects, gained unlawful access to the complainant’s mobile device and fraudulently transferred her nude photographs to his own device.

“Further findings indicated that he conspired with the other suspects and other accomplices currently at large to demand and receive money from the complainant in several tranches, ” he said

According to him, the suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The image maker said that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and to recover all proceeds of the alleged crime.

The spokesperson said that CP Ojapinwa reaffirmed the PSFU’s commitment to tackling cybercrime and urged the public to protect their personal data.

“Ojapinwa reiterates the Unit’s commitment to combating cyber-enabled crimes and protecting citizens from exploitation.

“He also advised the public to safeguard their personal data, exercise caution when using digital devices, and promptly report any form of harassment or cybercrime to the police, ” Ewhubare said.
