The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), has issued a warning about fake admission letters circulating online, claiming to offer admission into the NDA 77 Regular Course (RC).

The academy’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Reuben Kovangiya alerted the public in a statement issued in Kaduna.

Kovangiya said, “The attention of the NDA has been drawn to fraudulent letters currently in circulation, purportedly signed by the academy’s Registrar, offering admission into the NDA 77 Regular Course (RC).

“The NDA wishes to state unequivocally that the letters circulating are not only fake but obviously the antics of fraudsters, whose sole intention is to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

“Members of the public are hereby informed that the approved admission list of successful candidates and reserves for 77 RC was published in the Daily Trust and Daily Sun Newspapers of Aug. 19, 2025, and on the NDA’s official website: www.nda.edu.ng.

“Successful candidates of the 77 RC had since resumed and its admission process had been concluded.”

Koyangiya said the public was strongly advised to disregard such letters or messages claiming to offer admission into NDA.

He added, “It is most instructive to always verify admission information from the Office of the academy’s Registrar, academyregistrar@nda.edu.ng,”Kovangiya said.

The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has pledged to ensure greater representation of women police officers in tactical, operational, and command roles.

Egbetokun made the pledge on Thursday in Abuja at an event to mark 70 years of women policing in Nigeria.

He said the Nigeria Police Force was proud of its women and would continue to discourage discrimination, harassment, or career obstruction against them.

“We follow your strength, we celebrate your intellect, we rely on your courage, we are inspired by your service, and today, the entire nation stands with you.

“To the younger generation of female police officers, you are not merely inheriting history, you are shaping the next chapter.

“You are the architects of the policing culture we envisioned, a culture rooted in professionalism, compassion, competence, and courage.

“To every woman in the Nigerian Police Force, you are not an appendix in our story, you are not a footnote in our history, you are central to our identity” he said.

He said the celebration of women in policing was a legacy born in 1955, that began quietly and had grown into one of the strongest voices in the Nigerian security history.

According to him, we are here to open up a 70-year heritage, defined by resilience, brilliance, discipline, and unwavering service.

“This is not merely an anniversary. It’s a tribute to the women who stepped forward when society led them to step back.

“When the Nigeria Police Force first opened its doors to women, it was incredible. It was a groundbreaking step for its time.

“Although, the doors were open, but the pathways were narrow. The pioneering intake was small.

“A handful of courageous women permitted to serve but restricted to duties such as juvenile welfare, clerical work, and matters involving women and children,” he said.

Egbetokun said the women officers were allowed to join institutions, but yet, not allowed to explore the full breadth of policing.

According to him, even within those limitations, they set a new standard and their discipline, compassion, professionalism, and quiet courage became the seeds of institutional transformation.

He said the women have earned their place across every layer of policing, serving in operational, tactical, investigative, administrative, and strategic roles.

The I-G said the journey of the women officers was a reflection on the resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment of Nigerian women to national service.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to minimise civilian harm in conflict zones by completing a five day Civilian Harm Mitigation (CHM) training.

This is contained in a statement by NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, on Sunday in Abuja.

Ejodame said the course, held at the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC), Abuja, brought together pilots, UAV operators, legal officers, armament specialists, and public relations experts.

He said the training, directed by the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, would run in three batches with Conflict, Security and Development Consult Limited.

Modules covered included International Humanitarian Law, rules of engagement, ordnance selection to minimise collateral damage, positive target identification, the No-Strike List, and the Sensitive Target Approval and Review (STAR) process.

The CAS described the initiative as an extension of NAF’s Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan (CHMR-AP), launched earlier this year.

He said the plan had already reduced collateral damage incidents, despite the sustained tempo of military operations.

“From the very beginning of my tenure, I made it clear that protecting civilians is not just a moral duty, but a professional imperative,” Abubakar said.

Also, AVM Edward Gabkwet, representing the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, AVM Ibikunle Olorunmola Daramola, said civilian protection would help build trust with communities and enhance operational effectiveness.

According to him, when communities see extraordinary measures taken to protect them, trust grows. Such trust improves intelligence sharing and isolates hostile actors.

With two more batches expected to complete training by September, NAF said civilian protection would remain central to its doctrine in all theatres of operation.

Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has appealed for improved collaboration between the military, judiciary and other key stakeholders towards taming terrorism and dismantling terrorist networks.

Oluyede made the plea in Zaria on Tuesday at the 2025 Training Workshop organised by the Nigeria Army School of Legal Services Zaria, Kaduna State.

Our correspondent reports that the three-day workshop has: “The Menace of Terrorism: A Multi-Stakeholder Approach to Fighting Terrorism in Nigeria” as its theme.

Oluyede, who was the Special Guest of Honor was represented by Maj.-Gen. Ahmadu-Bello Mohammed, Commandant, Depot Nigeria Army, Zaria.

He noted that the complexity and adaptability of terrorist threats demand a holistic and collaborative approach; hence the need for improved cooperation among all stakeholders.

“It is only through robust cooperation, information sharing and respect for the rule of law that we can effectively dismantle terrorist networks and address the root causes of extremism,’’ the army boss said.

Oluyede said the workshop which brought together mid-career and junior officers from different formations was to acquaint the participants with legal requirements needed to fight terrorism.

He added that the business of the workshop was to deliberate on terrorism which remains a significant threat to the peace, stability and development of Nigeria.

Earlier, Maj.-Gen. A. Ndalolo, Chief of Training (Army) represented by Col. B. Garba, Commandant, Army School of Physical Training, said the workshop would benefit participants in endangering pro-activism between the legal officers and commanders.

“As legal officers, our role is not only to ensure that justice is served but also to advise commanders, safeguard human rights and facilitate policies that are both effective and just.

“This has continued to enable compliance with the national and international laws, including the international humanitarian law and human rights standard during military operation, investigations and prosecutions,’’ Ndalolo said.

In her welcome address, Lt.-Col. Henrietta Longpoe, acting Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Legal Services, Zaria, said the workshop was to enhance the capacity of the participants on critical aspects of law.

She added that the theme of the workshop was selected to stimulate intellectual discourse in order to address current and emerging legal issues.

According to her, the fight against terrorism cannot be won by the military alone; it demands a whole society approach to combating it.

“Therefore, the workshop attempts to explain what terrorism means with a view to understanding and prosecuting it,’’ she said.

The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has approved further extension of ‘’grace period’’ for the enforcement of tinted glass permit to Oct. 2.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the remark in a statement in Abuja on Monday.
He said the approval followed a significant surge in applications via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the directive.

Adejobi said that the idea was to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit was issued only to eligible and qualified individuals.

He added that the extension would also provide room for the continued fine-tuning of verification processes, both digital and physical, to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.

“The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms that the authorised platform for the application remains https://possap.gov.ng and advises citizens to disregard any unofficial channels.

“Members of the public are further encouraged to report all forms of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing to the appropriate police authorities, including via the dedicated hotline: 09169967000,” he said.

Adejobi commended the public for their cooperation, adding that the Nigeria Police Force would remain committed to balancing public convenience with robust security measures for the safety of all.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Ejodame said the operation was conducted in the early hours of Friday

He said the counter-offensive was executed through coordinated Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and Air Interdiction (AI) missions, following credible intelligence of an imminent attack.

He explained that the air component established contact with ground forces and tracked clusters of insurgents attempting to escape after the foiled assault.

“Precision munitions were employed to engage the fleeing terrorists, resulting in the neutralisation of several of them and the restoration of calm in the area.

“This swift and decisive action underscores the NAF’s unwavering commitment to providing close air support to troops, safeguarding communities, and neutralising insurgent threats with speed,” he added.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has charged senior military officers and strategic stakeholders to translate strategy into tangible action in addressing national challenges.

Oluyede delivered the message on Friday in Abuja during the graduation ceremony of participants in the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) Strategic Management and Policy Study Course 7/2024.

He was represented by Maj.-Gen. Gbemiga Adesina, Director-General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC).

He reminded the 25 graduating participants that Nigeria needed “their brains as much as their badges.”

“This course is not just about theory; it is about using strategy, leadership, and innovation to make things happen, in your organisations and for the nation,” Oluyede stated.

He lauded the course’s integration of policy, entrepreneurship, psychology, and research, saying it equipped officers to lead in a rapidly evolving security and governance environment.

“You must become change agents. Your next mission is outside this classroom, for the progress of Nigeria.

“Apply the knowledge gained here for your personal growth, your organisations, and the service of our nation and humanity,” he added.

Director-General of NARC, retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, described the programme as a platform for building trust, collaboration, and mutual understanding across Nigeria’s defence, security, and civil institutions.

He commended the steady growth of the course and described the 25-member cohort as one of the largest since inception.

He highlighted the consistent participation of agencies such as the Department of State Services, Defence Intelligence, NYSC, and others as a sign of confidence in the programme.

“Collaboration cannot work if we don’t know each other’s strengths, weaknesses, and perspectives. This course provides that opportunity,” he said.

Wahab also applauded the participants for their discipline and openness to dialogue, urging them to use their new skills and networks to navigate national challenges.

“No one has a monopoly of knowledge. What you see as white, someone else may see as black, the point is to exchange ideas and learn from one another,” he noted.

Course President, Maj.-Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army, the centre, and partner institutions for the opportunity to undertake the strategic training.

He also thanked the NDA commandant and resource persons for their mentorship and commitment.

Our correspondent reports that the participants underwent 11 months of intensive academic training, earning a master’s degree from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and a Fellowship of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre.

They were officially inducted on Thursday ahead of their graduation.

The Katsina State Government, says 80 per cent of bandits’ attacks are being aided by informants and some members of the communities who supply food and other items to criminals in the forests.

The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Nasir Mu’azu disclosed this in Katsina on Thursday, while briefing newsmen on the security situation.

He said that some members of those affected communities serve as informants to the criminals, or provide them with their needs at exorbitant prices in the bush.

According to the commissioner, the situation is making it difficult for the government and security operatives to address the security challenges in those areas.

“In one of the communities affected by the insecurity, a man was found to be selling a bottle of Coca-cola for N3,000, another sold fuel for N5,000 per liter to the bandits.

“Some members of the communities provide the bandits with drugs and other illicit drugs at a high amount, making it a lucrative business for them,” the commissioner said.

Mu’azu said that some community members often connive with bandits to abduct their targeted victims, including their family members.

“In another case, we found a man who connived with bandits to abduct his biological father who was diabetic.

“When the bandits brought him to their hideout, they had already reserved diabetic tablets for his daily consumption.

“The sum of N30 million was paid as ransom for the man, and N8 million was given to the man for compromising and allowing his father to be abducted.”

Muazu also said informants were known for alerting bandits whenever Nigeria Air Force (NAF) jets leave the airport with the aim of bombing their hideouts.

He said that the jets often end up not reaching their target, because some members of the communities allow the criminals to hide under them.

According to him, the situation is a serious challenge hindering the success against the bandits, especially by the NAF, making their mission unsuccessful.

The commissioner revealed that activities of bandits only constitute about 20 per cent of the security challenge, lamenting that tackling insecurity in the state can only be addressed when there is cooperation from affected communities.

He said the state government has made headway in several councils in tackling insecurity using kinetic measures, but that the non-kinetic measure was also important to ensure a lasting solution to the problem.

Mu’azu called on the public to come forward and provide sensitive information that would lead to viable solutions in addressing insecurity, assuring that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

This is contained in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, (CPEO), Assistant Corps Marshal, Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Thursday in Abuja.

Our correspondent reports that the mobile court exercise, conducted under the jurisdiction of the Cross River Sector Command, handled 70 traffic-related offences committed by 35 drivers, with one person discharged on Tuesday, July 29.

Ogungbemide described the prosecution as a reaffirmation of the corps zero tolerance for corruption and traffic violations.

He said the move aligned with the corps’ mandate to enhance road safety and enforce the rule of law.

“Among the cases presented, 12 motorists were charged for attempting to bribe the FRSC operatives; an offence the corps viewed with grave concern.

“Others are failure to install speed limiters (6), 14 for driver’s licence violation, (9) for vehicle licence violation, and (8) for seatbelt use violation.

“Also recorded were (7) cases of overloading, number plate violation (3), light/sign violation (3), tyre violation (2), fire extinguisher offences (2), and one each for obstruction, failure to move over, and caution sign violation,” he said.

Speaking on the development, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, described the court action as bold and commendable.

He said the action demonstrated the corps’ resolve to uphold traffic laws with fairness and professionalism.

“The era of impunity is over; the roads must be safe, and the Corps’ will pursue that goal relentlessly.

“No individual, no matter how highly placed, will be shielded from the consequences of breaking the law,” he said.

Mohammed warned against bribery, urging Nigerians to report any FRSC personnel involved in corrupt practices through the Corps’ mobile app, the 122 toll-free line, or by visiting the nearest FRSC formation.

He also called on motorists nationwide to always
obey traffic regulations, shun corruption, ensure proper documentation, and maintain vehicle safety standards.

He reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to partnering with state governments to improve road infrastructure, enhance public enlightenment, and eliminate road hazards.
