Chief Eze Nwachukwu, the Acting Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi, says the party is ready for the state congress, scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 19.

Nwachukwu, who spoke to newsmen on Friday in Abakaliki at the party secretariat, said that all arrangements had been put in place to ensure hitch-free, credible and successful exercise.

He said that attempts to stop the congress through the law court by “enemies of the party failed.’’

He said that some party members “filed an ex-parte application before an Abakaliki High Court, seeking an injunction to stop the congress,’’

Nwachukwu who said that the court dismissed the application, describing the ruling as victory for democracy.

“We are set and ready for the state congress of our great party slated to hold tomorrow, May 19, and the coast is clear, especially with the high court ruling on the congress.

“We have made all necessary arrangements prescribed by the congress guidelines including informing the security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission and communicating the venue for the congress.

“The state congress committee will arrive the state later in the day to issue forms to qualified contestants,”Nwachukwu said.

He noted that the party had earlier harmonised the elective positions in line with party’s constitution to eliminate tension and friction during and after the congress.

Nwachukwu further assured of the safety of the delegates, contestants, party supporters, as well as members of the congress committee.

Nwachukwu urged party faithful to troop out en masse to witness the peaceful conduct of the party’s state congress and support those to emerge as new state officers.

Speaking on the report of his alleged suspension by a ‘faction,’ Nwachukwu told party members and the general public to disregard and discountenance the report.

“The alleged report purporting that I have been suspended by a ‘faction,’ is not only laughable, but frivolous and hatched by desperate and frustrated mischief plotters to drag the party to the mud’’
