Sule Lamido’s detention: Fayose warns FG against continued harassment of presidential aspirants

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, last night (Sunday) remained in custody of the Nigerian Police Force Zone 1 Headquarters in Kano following his detention over an allegation of inciting public disturbance leveled against him by the Jigawa State Government.

Briefing newsmen on the ex-Governor’s detention around 7.30pm (Nigeria time), the Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 1, DSP Sambo Sokoto, said that the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Kayode Aderanti, received a petition of inciting of public peace against the ex-Governor, hence the reason for inviting him to respond to the allegations leveled against him.

Contrary to some media reports which suggested that Sule Lamido was arrested at his residence at Sharada area in Kano metropolis, DSP Sokoto said he deliberately honored the police invitation, adding that the allegation leveled against him is a criminal offence contrary to section 114 of the criminal code of Nigeria.

He confirmed that the Former Governor is under investigation in their custody, saying the result of the investigations will be made public in due course just as the case will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigations.

Unconfirmed reports said Lamido had allegedly incited his supporters in Jigawa state to stop the conduct of the forthcoming local government elections slated for the 1st of July, 2017 in the State.
