FCT Vehicles Inspection Office registers over 59,000 vehicles in 2017

VIO stops documents renewal of vehicles with old number plates

A total of 59,424 vehicles were registered by the Vehicles Inspection Office (VIO) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2017, according to its quarterly report released to our correspondent on Wednesday in Abuja.

The Central Motor Registry Quarterly Report says the accumulated number was harvested over the four quarters between January and December during the year under review.

The report, signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the agency, Mr Kalu Emetu, also showed that the fourth quarter had the highest number of vehicles registered with a total of 17,718.

“The first quarter followed with the registration of 17,203 vehicles.

“The third quarter was next with 13,287 registered vehicles, while the second quarter had the least number of 11,216 registered vehicles, ” the report said.

The breakdown of the motor registry report indicated that 40,138 cars; 4,059 buses; 2,119 pick-up and 1,101 trucks were registered in 2017.

According to the report, a total of 1,103 commercial motorcycles and tricycles were registered.

The report further indicated that the third quarter had the highest number of registered commercial motorcycles and tricycles, followed by the fourth quarter, and then the second quarter.

However, the first quarter had no commercial motorcycle or tricycle registration as shown by the report.
