Google honours late Maya Angelou

Google has honoured Dr Maya Angelou posthumously by placing a video doodle of the late legendary author on the home page of the web browser.

Google hounoured the late singer, who could have been 90 years old today on its webpage with a video doodle of her famous poem “Still I rise’’.

Doodles are changes made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers and scientists.

The video doodle includes her own voice with the voices of other individuals whom she had inspired.

Angelou is the author of seven autobiographies, three essays, and several books of poetry and she was the recipient of more than 50 honorary degrees.

“The revered poet died on May 28, 2014 at the age of 86, today would have been her 90th birthday,’’ Google said.

Our correspondent reports that when you click the home page illustration, you will hear the words of Angelou’s poem “ Still I rise’’ read aloud as drawings illustrating each line fill the screen.

Until her death, Angelou was an African-American poet, singer, memoirist, autobiographer and civil rights activist.
