How to make travelling with kids less of a nightmare

Published

on

Travelling with kids can be fun, their knee-jerk reactions to events and happenings around them can sprout uncontrollable laugher. It can also be nightmarish if they act or all spent the whole flight screaming.

Take your time

The greatest thing you can take whether at the airport, sightseeing or getting from one destination to another is extra time. Toddlers love to explore and don’t care for the time pressures of travel, so you’re more likely to all retain your cool if you factor the faffing, gawping, stalling, toilet stops and tantrums into your timeframe.

Book ahead

Whether you’re camping or staying in hotels, flying economy or business class, it pays to book ahead. You may also want to check out cheap flights or vacation packages offered by travel companies before flight booking.

Get a child locator

Toddlers aren’t fans of reins, backpacks with a leash, or any infringement on their freedom. Keep tabs on them at airports, train stations and crowded attractions with a child locator. If you lose your child set off the alarm and follow the sound to find them.

Health

When travelling with children it is important to research about the health situation in the country of destination. If your destination is a country with an epidemic, you may need specialist advice on the appropriate medication.

Documentation and Visas

If you’re going to need visas for your destination, requirement for children and adults may differ. You may also need to take along extra documentation when travelling with children. The standard requirements for authorisation to travel are your child’s birth certificate, your marriage certificate (if applicable) and a signed and attested consent letter from the other parent confirming you can travel with your child. If the other parent is no longer alive, you may need proof.
